The Da Vinci code was better. Much better.

Still Angels & Demons have enough material to keep you hooked onto it till end. At least the experience wasn't as disappointing as that of Quantum of Solace. Just that some places I feel director couldn't keep the loop tight. The best I liked was... AMC (can't say in detail as that would become spoiler). Loved the background score too. Graphics, Sound effects all are pretty neatly done.

Don't worry, am not playing spoiler. Watch it, you may like it.

Awake was quite neat. Enjoyed it. Best moment was when the mother comes and lights the rooms as her son is sleeping on bed awaiting his death moment surrounded in darkness.

Evening was well spent with Ronin. Yeah, watched it again. Thanks to the subtitles in English, it helped comprehending the plot better.

  1. Drona: Whoever said it's a big budget film must be kidding. Very few characters. Three to be precise. Jaya Bachchan is in role of extras, so can't count her in. Okay, if you want to count horsies then the count is 5. Had watched it in inflight entertainment on Indian Airlines while returning from Delhi last wednesday. Had to request pillow from the flight attendant so as to suppress sounds of my giggling and laughing due to the movie. Probably the Krishna baby from the Krishna serial speaks faster than the pace with which Abhishek and Priyanka were delivering dialogues. Truly a hilarious and a mind-blowing mindless masterpiece.

  2. Mummy 3: Pretty dull and boring stuff. Actually for that matter, both sequels of Mummy were horrible. Just the first one was pretty good. Avoidable. Pathetic acting, predictable content. Not recommended for inflight entertainment thing if you don't wanna sleep before an important meeting. Yeah, watched it when going to Delhi.

  3. Crank: Watched today morning. Watchable. Interesting plot. The best part was Jason calling up his girl and talking the parting lines during his free fall from helicopter before crashing.

Action's good. High on adrenaline. Plot's okay too. But somehow I kept getting the feeling that everyone is dragging on with the characterization. Probably the movie was made out in rush and the cast wasn't given enough time to fit into the character they were to portray. Or may be everything is fine and me probably just raised expectation level way too high. But then, to me at first look, Casino Royale seemed/seems better.

Funny things happen yet again. Don't know whom to issue credits to. Had gone to GEM (Bandra) for matinee show for this movie. Being weekend and being a bond movie, theatre guys usually run out of ticket very soon. Me reached some 15 minutes prior to show. All tickets were booked. I was about to make an advance booking for evening 2000 hrs show. Just then one person approached and said that they have an extra ticket (single) and he offered it to me (of course, I paid for it! :P). The seat was (yet again :)) precisely a middle seat, both row-wise and column-wise. That was good. Had a very nice and apt view of movie from there. Seats were comfy too. Hmmm, that way movie wasn't at all a bad deal for 75 INR.

Yeah, The Dark Knight remains my favorite movie for this year.

BTW, forgot to mention. No gadget (unless gun equates as some gadget) in this movie. Also, the two fight sequence in this movie reminded me of sequences enacted in Bourne Series. And yeah (yet again :P), Bourne remains the best on screen agent for me.

Batman and Bond. Not comparable. Different characters. Similarities, any? Both are detectives, intelligent, use gadgets and thankfully now appear more human(e) in their recent reincarnations. Earlier, this was sort of typical of James Bond movie or Batman thingy - they are tied or trapped in something, villain would then abscond or wait for their "painful" demise etc. And these guys would simply use their gadget, something something to get out of that trap and beat the bad guy's intentions (and bad guy too). I always use to wonder why is villain shy of pulling trigger. Things have changed in last 2 years for both of these action comic characters. Both, the recent batman series (Nolan directed ones) and Casino Royale had good plot, sensible storyline, and nice depiction of emotions bringing it slightly closer to human realities.

Am I raising my expectation levels? May be :). But for some reasons, even if QOS of QOS turns out to be better than Casino Royale, I seriously doubt if it will be able to dislodge "The Dark Knight" off the top from my personal "top 10 movie" chart (2008 edition). Have been watching the latest bat stuff almost once in every fortnight since last 4 months.

Must be the most hilarious movie of the year. Reasons?
- Abhishek Bachchan playing lead role (isn't that good enough?).
- Abhishek might be named Drona (who knows) in the movie but is dressed up like Ashwathama (Dude, he's got ruby tied to his forehead! Could have tried feviquick/stickfast...).
- Priyanka Chopra with her amazing art of expression.
- K K dressed in Dracula getup/setup.
- Film preview has been quite enticing. A train chasing horse riding guy in a desert sort of background. Either the train is not running on tracks or the horse feet are tied to roller-skates. Camel(s)... Forget it!

Am I surprised? Not actually. Am reminded of what roles Amitabh had opted for in his 50s/60s - Ajooba, Jadugar, Toofan, Shahanshah etc etc.

How good is an hero if he ain't a superhero :p

Loved this movie for the philosophy it carried. Writing down a few quotes from the movie -

Po's dad: There is no secret ingredient

Oogway: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

Oogway: There are no accidents

Shifu: I said you are free to eat
Po: Am I?
Shifu: Are you?

Wanting to see The Dark Knight. IMAX is next to hotel in Hyderabad and has cheaper rate than the ones in Mumbai. Hoping to see this one in Hyderabad in coming week.

  1. Pakeezah
    • It shall always stay on top of my chart. Wonderful story with tremendous performances by wonderful starcast. Songs were neat. More than the songs, I remember and hum the background score that this movie carried. Will always remember this response given by Sahibjaan to her attendant when attendant says something admiring her fate - Agar hau sake tau lae jaa aur waapas mat dena (If possible, take it and don't return it back).

  2. Mou gaan dou (AKA Infernal Affairs)
    • An awesome thriller of a mole chasing mole. I can't compare this movie to any other type. I don't think it would classify as an undercover agent category movie also. It's pretty much down to earth with realistic expectations of a normal human being when placed in difficult shoes. The last 5 minutes of this movie can shake you up thoroughly.

  3. Angoor
    • Based on Shakespeare's "comedy of errors", Director has done wonderful transformation of it to Indian context. Wonderful performances by the trio - Sanjeev Kumar, Moushami Chatterjee and Deven Verma. Love the tiny conversation between Deven Verma and the Shopkeeper when deven is trying bargain for the rope to be used for committing suicide.

  4. Crash
    • Paul Haggis does very fine job of linking parallel lives. And as he is doing that he is not giving or taking credit from those lives. At the end of this whole plot you don't know who qualifies to be called as 'hero' or 'villain' in real lives. Usually it is possible to lose the view of the core theme when trying something like this but not in this movie.

  5. Ringu (AKA The Ring)
    • Simply outstanding as a horror movie. It's amazing to see how a director can run chill down your spine with no zombie, no bloodshed (or those traditional elements associated with horror) etc. This movie is a class apart. Neither its sequel nor the alternate editions (American, Indian and I guess there might be many other) came close to it.

These ones top my chart as of today. There are many great movies that have come and shall continue to come. Still, listing on this chart is gonna stay more or less stable.

Current Music: Moby - Extreme ways (in loop)
Watched Bourne Ultimatum in last week. Liked it.

Bourne: My argument is not with you

Bourne: Where are you now
Noah: I am sitting in my office
Bourne: I doubt that
Noah: Why would you doubt that
Bourne: If you were in your office right now, we would be having this conversation face to face.

Landy: David, why don't you come in with me...It'll be better if we do this together.
Bourne: This is where it started for me. This is where it ends.

Other agent: Why didn't you take the shot ?
Bourne: You don't know why you are supposed to kill me. Look at us. Look at what they are making us.

Bourne: I remember. I remember everything. I'm no longer Jason Bourne.
Hirsch: So now you're going to kill me.
Bourne: No. You don't deserve the star they give you on the wall at Langley.

Every other agent movie looks ordinary. One may argue that the nature and category is different. Accepted :)

They have retained the soundtrack. So you have "Extreme way" performed by Moby coming in towards the closing time. It compliments the theme quite nicely.

You would be knowing it by title - "Who am I" [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0127357/]

Watching it after 8 years. Action is pretty neat. Fights were nicely choreographed.

Jackie seems to be more open to have people from other nations, other cultures in his movies. Bruce, however, seemed more rigid.

And now after the era of these two amazing performers, Tony Jaa [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1388074/] can make many jaws drop (angrezi ki tau successfully waat laga di apun nae :p).

Eh, Tony's DOB is Feb 05.

Chris and Vrusha arranged for yet another meeting. It started with (hugs, as usual, followed by) Transformer movie and some quality chomping time at Coffee World. About the movie - The movie is worth watching. You will be amazed with the CG stuff. The only thing that Indians won't like would be the 60 seconds of insult to BPO/Call center thingy. No comments on the acting part. Since the transformers overshadowed humans, there is no point talking about them in this movie. Just look at the transformers and the transformations. That's all.

Don't see if you haven't seen the movie. These clips are only for those who have seen it. )

Now for the people. But they need to be talked about in more details. So will leave it for future. Will conclude by saying - I am proud of these three people. Each one of them is a winner. I feel proud to be associated with them. My friends, my inspirations.

Third Chinese movie that left some impressions on my mind. Prior to it, two movies that I loved were - Infernal Affairs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infernal_Affairs) and Hero (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_%282002_film%29). Oh, I have been watching lots of stuff by Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Chow Yun Fat and Jet Li. For sometime, these were the only names known to me. Until the day, I saw Infernal Affairs. I started noticing the faces that could deliver non-stereotypical act. Tony Leung, Andy Lau both played the lead role in that movie and were well supported by Anthony Wong and Eric Tsang.

Tony Leung is my current favorite Chinese actor. Loved his performance in both Infernal Affairs and Hero. Especially, Hero. Watch that movie to know why.

Ironically, Andy Lau played semi-lead role in this movie. Why ironic? The pattern shows that the three movies I liked max are shared between Tony Leung and Andy Lau. TL in IA and Hero and AL in IA and HOFD.

HOFD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Flying_Daggers) is again some sort of conspiracy theory. Acting wise, it was pretty ordinary performances by the two lead characters (Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Ziyi). In that sense, Andy Lau seems to be doing justice to his character more than others. Oh, don't ask me to compare it with "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". I can't.

Saturday was well spent with four movies - Bourne Supremacy, Gladiator, Kill Bill 2, HOFD. Recorded some of the soundtrack from Bourne Supremacy, some screen shots from Gladiator and some dialogues from KB2. Didn't do much with HOFD. Heh... It was midnight and had no energy left to play around.

Recommended for those who like heavy stuff. The only person who makes this movie light is Irfan Khan and to some extent, Sharman Joshi. Talking of quality of act, most of the people have done justice to their role. I did enjoy watching Dharmendra and Nafisa in their role.

Recorded some video clips and some songs on my cell. Oh, I forgot... I was there with ananymous_ (the person who got tickets for us) and manogat (the one who proposed to see this movie before I could ask them:).

I think it would have been an apt title for Casino Royale. And it seems to be the current trend of hollywood. Restart the superhero series instead of continuing with previous trend. So we had 'Batman begins', 'Superman returns' etc. I take 'Casino Royale' as the next in this series. With this understanding, I cannot compare Daniel Craig with any other bond. I can possibly do an comparison between Sean Connery (beginning with Dr. No) and Daniel. But, not a good thing to do at this point of time.

One observation - Brosnan was worst and best in first and last representation of bond. Sean Connery was not impressive in 'Dr. No' either. It seems, actors take time to gel in the character. Daniel Craig seems to be meeting his director's requirement, considering that his director possibly is wanting to have a change in image of Bond (of Connery, Moore and Brosnan).

Yesterday evening I visited Forum Shopping Mall. Ravi was to meet his DAC buddies. I separated from his gang in time to do some cheap buy at Landmark. Selected some 4 movies in 230 bucks. The costliest (66 bucks) was this one - "Non stop trouble with my double" (German original - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087147/). Needless to say, It was hilarious. Dieter Hallervorden is quite talented.

Tahir, would like to have a look at this movie?

The remaining ones are
- The Incredible Genie (54 bucks)
- 36 crazy fists (Jackie Chan movie. 55 bucks)
- Master with cracked fingers (Jackie Chan movie. 55 bucks)

This collection will help me survive the TV less nights here :D

Before I start my teaser, I gotta thank my two friends. Ravi who provided with the content and Sawani whose dabba was utilized for viewing them.

- Madhur Rakesh should retire
- One has a supper hero and another has a 'dupe'r heroine.
- We witnessed transfer of fat/muscles from Basu to Roshan. Basu looked thin and Roshan had only biceps to show.
- Hrithick had a double role and Kay kaay had a troubled role.
- Rekha makes a good granny except for the voice. I guess we could have asked Kamini Kaushal to provide voice for her. Or, should it be other way round?

Both were hopelessly boring movie.
